6 large cooking apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced
2 teaspoons (tsp) lemon juice
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup rolled oats (such as Quaker Oats)
½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp grated nutmeg
1/8 tsp ground cloves
1/3 cup unsalted butter
Place apples in large bowl and sprinkle with lemon juice. Toss to coat. (This is to keep apples from turning brown.) Arrange in generously buttered 10-inch microproof and ovenproof deep-dish pie plate and set aside.
Place flour, oats, sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves in medium bowl and stir until blended. Cut in butter with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle over apples, covering apples completely. Microcook on high 6 minutes. Rotate dish one-half turn and microcook on high 6 to 8 minutes or until apples are tender.
Remove from microwave oven and place under preheated broiler 3 to 4 inches from heat source. Broil about 2 minutes or until top is crisp and browned. Serve warm or chilled with ice cream or sweetened whipped cream.
