Barbecued Tempeh and Peppers
Tasty pita sandwiches with a hearty filling for an easy weeknight dinner

INGREDIENTS

1 package Tempeh (the mixed grain kind is best)
1 red pepper
1 onion
2 cloves garlic
whole wheat pita bread
lettuce for sandwiches
1-2 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1 teaspoon chinese five-spice
salt and hot sauce to taste

sauce:
1 Tablespoon soy sauce
3 tablespoons tomato paste
1 tablespoon molasses or brown sugar
2/3 cup water

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat olive oil in a skillet and saute onions for 3-4 minutes.

Add garlic and bell pepper, and cook another 5 minutes.

add the (cubed) tempeh to the skillet, and saute 5 minutes until it begins to brown, adding more oil if necessary

mix together sauce ingredients in a small bowl

add rest of spices to pan, stirring constantly, then add sauce.

add salt and hot sauce to taste

serve in warm pitas with lettuce
